Two Reasons Why It's Important to Have Your Vehicle Serviced Regularly

Posted on

It's very important to ensure that you have your vehicle serviced on a regular basis. Read on to find out why.

It can prevent your brakes from malfunctioning when you're driving

During a servicing appointment, your chosen mechanic will thoroughly inspect your car's brakes for signs of wear or defects. They will then make any adjustments they believe to be necessary (such as, for example, replacing frayed brake pads) to ensure that the brakes remain fully functional.

This inspection and adjustment process will drastically reduce the chances of the brakes malfunctioning unexpectedly midway through a road journey. This, in turn, could spare you the enormous distress and costs associated with being involved in a road accident.

For example, if during the servicing process, your mechanic notices that the wearing out of your vehicle's brake pads has resulted in the brake calipers and rotors abrading each other, they will not only fit new pads but will also replace the other aforementioned abraded components.

This is important, as damaged brake rotors can result in the sudden failure of the entire brake system (as rotors are designed to bring the vehicle to a stop when they come into contact with the brake pads).

If you drive with broken rotors, your stopping distances could suddenly increase; this could result in you hitting the vehicle in front of you on a motorway and subsequently causing a pile-up or hitting a cyclist or pedestrian.

It can save you money

If you're on a tight budget, it can be all too tempting to postpone your annual car servicing appointment. However, the truth is that getting your car inspected and adjusted on a regular basis could actually save you a substantial amount of money in the future.

The reason for this is as follows; the detailed examination of your vehicle which is carried out during the servicing process can enable a mechanic to identify and then fix any small faults that would otherwise go unnoticed until they started to have a serious impact on the functionality of your car. For example, if the mechanic discovers that your car's radiator has sprung a small leak, they can seal up the hole and refill any lost coolant.

However, if you do not have your car serviced and this hole remains unrepaired for an extended period of time, the engine coolant levels could drop to dangerously low levels. If this should happen, your vehicle's engine could overheat, and many of its most critical components could end up warped beyond repair. This could then result in you having to spend hundreds of dollars on a new engine for your car.
